Beth comes to BMA after a long career as a world language teacher and principal. She began her teaching career in southern Vermont and has been living in the Burlington area since 2009. As a previous instructor for UVM and Castleton University, she taught the world language methods course, supervised preservice teachers at UVM, and taught the New Teacher Seminar. Her passions include sailing, gardening, and skiing… and of course, her dog, Ria.

Prior to coming to Burke, Dave taught history for six years at Kennett High School in Conway, N.H. He completed graduate study in American History at the University of New Hampshire, which he attended on a James Madison Memorial Fellowship. He and his wife, Rachel, are dorm parents in Heib.

Francesca has over 20 years of experience with educational programs and the arts, including personal interest in mosaics, hot glass, jewelry, architecture, watercolors, textiles, photography, and graphic design. Her work can be viewed in galleries, residences, and businesses nationwide, and one of her pieces was selected for inclusion in the National Mosaic Exhibit. She lives in East Burke with her husband in a home built out of 60% recycled materials.

After a few years of teaching elementary school in Rhode Island, Elizabeth started her journey at BMA in 2017. As a Literacy Specialist and TESOL teacher, she has been able to bring her knowledge and expertise into the BMA community. Outside of the classroom, Elizabeth is a dorm parent in Moulton House and serves as the Director of Student Life. Her favorite elements of being a Burkie include: living and working in a community based on trust and built on equity, being challenged by the students’ independence and curiosity day in and day out, and of course, as a new skier, having a crop of world-class instructors as students in the classroom and teachers on the hill!

Jonathan began his teaching journey at his local church when he was only 15; since then, he has taught language and literature at MIT high school programs, for the Fulbright program in Slovakia, and most recently for 4 years at the St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, CT. As a life-long lover of literature, Jonathan continues to study at the Bread Loaf School of English, and he brings his passion for learning new material to the classroom. Jonathan lives on campus with his dog, Rose, and enjoys snowboarding, hiking, and fishing in his spare time.

Ella has a broad range of experience including manufacturing, construction, and business. Combined with her technical background, Ella spent the past five years racing downhill and enduro mountain bikes professionally. She has always been a passionate teacher, from snowboard instructing in high school to assistant teaching Calculus at Clarkson or more recently coaching youth and adults in mountain biking. She is a passionate member of the Burke community. Ella is a coach for the IdeRide youth mountain bike team and is proud of her connection with the development of amazing youth athletes. She joins the BMA team for the 20/21 school year and hopes her passion for STEM and the outdoors will build lasting connections with our student athletes!

John came to Burke after 15 years of teaching in Vermont. He has served as Science Department Chair, dorm parent, MakerSpace developer and coach of Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball and Ultimate. He lives in Burke with his wife, Erin, and children, Una and Pace.

After graduating from Burke in 2006, Ida studied biology and psychology at Dartmouth College and then completed a 9-year career with the US Ski Team which included three World Cup podiums and competing in two Olympic Games. After retiring from ski racing, Ida returned to Burke in 2019 and is excited to be part of the STEM team teaching Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Statistics, and Pre-Algebra. She lives in Kirby Vermont.
