Burke Mountain Academy Supports Youth Nordic Skiing in the Northeast Kingdom

For the past five years BMA science and math teacher Lindley van der Linde and her husband Tiaan have coached the Burke Bill Koch League. The Bill Koch League is a nationwide program that fosters the love of cross-country skiing.  Local Nordic skier and current Winter Term eighth grader Daymien Ide was introduced to the Nordic ski world through the Burke Bill Koch League.  The main focus of the program is to teach youngsters ages 5 to 13 how to Nordic ski, and instill in them a love of being part of outdoor adventure, skills, exercise, and fun!  During that time, Burke Mountain Academy has been instrumental in supporting these goals by providing a venue with groomed trails, a warming hut with hot cocoa (the dining hall), and transportation and wax support at local races.

This winter the Burke Bill Koch League is teaming up with the Burke Town School after-school program.  Lindley and Tiaan will work with youngsters in the CNSU school system on Monday afternoons as one of their after school choices.  Ski equipment will be provided through the Burke BKL and a John Sackett Grant.  BMA will provide support by lending their groomer and helping the club maintain its NENSA status.
